Visit to the Mahim Nature Park let us see the different creatures in their natural habitat. We got to see the different stages of the butterfly's life cycle too there
Reflecting on our learning at the nature park.
Post the very informative field trip and the hours of intense research we moved onto finding out what makes an insect an insect. What are its body parts etc. Through this activity we also learnt how to label a picture.
To further explore the creatures and their body parts we went to the school lab to observe them more closely using the magnifying glasses and microscopes.
Moving further on we undertook the task of understanding how creatures change. We looked up for their life cycles.
We worked with our buddies to present the life cycle either through a poster, puppet , model or a role play.

To understand better how these tiny creatures are helpful and useful to the environment we stepped outside our class into the EIS garden, to see if we can see how.
Once we had all our research in place we moved on to using that information to create our non fiction book on the researched creature. We used the I Pad app - Story creator to make our books.
We used the collages we made with the photo collage as the cover pages of our books.
We moved on to the final task of this Unit of Inquiry. We had to use our knowledge and thinking skills to create our own tiny creature

Presentation time
Last but the least we ended the unit by filling in the KWL chart. We filled in what we had learnt in the unit.
We began working on making a non fiction book based on the facts we had been collecting.
We started by writing an interesting beginning for our book
We then moved on to making our table of contents page of our book.
We used connective words to connect the facts to give the text in the book a good flow
Post that we worked on putting the facts into our books and complete our non fiction books
Along with working on the non fiction book, during morning time we also took on a book study. We read a book and then we changed the settings, we compared the character with ourselves using a Venn diagram, we looked for patterns, identified nouns and adjectives, we found words and calculated the word total etc. It was a lot of thinking but nevertheless we totally enjoyed it.
We used the field trip as an opportunity to collect data about the different kinds of butterflies we could spot at the park.We used this data to plot bar graphs.

We took on a project called pocket counting. We chose 5 teachers form the school and collected a survey over 3 days to know how many pockets they had on themselves. We recorded the data in a chart and then platted the same as a pictograph and bar graph.
We also worked on our subtraction skills through BUILD
After the Art assembly it was time to have some fun with languages. We played games, sang songs and tried to write our names in Hindi. It was superrrrrrr fun!

Assembly time
We had our Art assembly where we learnt all about paper mache. We also got the opportunity to work and experience the process of paper mache. Thank you Grade 4 and MS. Delnaz for the fun exploratory assembly.
After the Art assembly it was time to have some fun with languages. We played games, sang songs and tried to write our names in Hindi. It was superrrrrrr fun!
Grade 4 as part of their end of unit celebration, they organised a wax museum of the different explorers. It was a very informative assembly.
Lastly, before closing for the Diwali break we had a small celebration in school, where we made rangolis.
